10 Ways to Get Your Skin Photoshoot Ready

If you’re an actor or model, you know that you’re going to be in front of the camera. Whether it’s a professional headshot or a high fashion photoshoot, there’s one thing that you will need to have, and that is clear healthy skin.

The worst thing that could happen is to show up to a photoshoot with skin that is less than camera ready. If you want to look your best and let your beauty shine through, check out these 10 things you can do to make sure your skin is looking flawless when the camera starts shooting.

1) Stay hydrated

It’s always important to stay hydrated, but it’s especially true if you want flawless skin. What your skin looks like is directly linked to the amount of water you drink. Drinking at least 4 cups a day, or 1 liter, is the absolute bare minimum you should be consuming if you want your skin to look healthy.

2) Stay out of the sun

Everyone likes to have a gorgeous bronze glow, but too much time in the sun can wreak serious havoc on your skin. Regular, unprotected sun exposure will dehydrate you, create sunspots, add wrinkles, and put you at a higher risk for skin cancer. Do your skin a favor and use sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and hide out in the shady whenever you’re outside.

3) No smoking, please

Smoking might be the absolute worst thing you can do to your skin. It has been proven to decrease the blood flow to your face, which results in a lack of color and lack of oxygen. On top of that, smoking decreases the elasticity of the skin by depleting collagen and elastin. In the end, you’ll have skin that has aged quicker and doesn’t look healthy. Your health and career aren’t worth the risk.

4) Eat a balanced diet

As the old saying goes, you are what you eat. This isn’t just true in terms of weight or cholesterol either; it applies to your skin too. Fatty foods that are high in sugar and sodium are connected with more acne, uneven skin tone, and dry skin. Make sure you are eating a balanced diet full of fruits, veggies, and lean protein like fish to get the youthful skin you want.

5) Use gentle cleansers

Although it’s good to wash your face daily, and sometimes twice a day depending on your skin, this could actually do more harm than good. Using harsh cleansers that have chemicals like benzoyl peroxide will only remove the natural oils your skin needs to stay healthy and can even cause redness and dry skin. Keep it clean, but make sure you’re only using gentle, non-irritating products that will improve your skin.

6) Cut back on the hot water

Who doesn’t love a nice hot shower? They’re relaxing and soothing, but too much hot water can quickly dry out your skin. Try and shower in a milder temperature or cut your shower time shorter to reduce the damage.

7) Exfoliate regularly

There’s nothing worse than skin that is rough and flaky. You might spend all day trying to moisturize, but you still can’t seem to get rid of the dry texture that has taken over. That’s why you need to start exfoliating regularly. Giving your skin a good scrub twice a week is the best way to remove dead skin, unclog pores, and maintain a dewy glow.

8) Stay moisturized

This tip may seem obvious, but it’s one that a lot of models and actors easily forget. Moisturizing daily is a key ingredient to having firm, radiant skin. Make sure to choose a moisturizer that is gentle and long-lasting for the best results.

9) Get some rest

There’s a reason why it’s called beauty sleep. Getting a full night’s rest is one of the best things you can do for your skin and your entire body. When you’re tired, it’s obvious, and usually comes with bags under the eyes and lifeless skin. Eight full hours of rest will rejuvenate your skin and will make you look more energized on and off camera.

10) Don’t stress

Seriously, don’t stress! Maybe you’re late to a photoshoot or you’re new to the world of modeling and acting, but if you want to keep your skin looking healthy, make sure your mind is healthy too. Stress can have detrimental effects on your entire body, including your skin. That’s why it’s important to stay positive and grounded. This will make a noticeable difference not just in your everyday life, but your on-camera activities as well.
